It Takes a Village Spotlight: Katie Lory

Behind every classroom we serve is a community of people who make our mission possible. Through our It Takes a Village Spotlight series, we’re celebrating the staff, volunteers, board members, community partners, and supporters who help Teachers’ Treasures equip educators. Meet this edition’s featured supporter, Katie Lory, Teachers’ Treasures’ new Board Chair and a dedicated champion of our mission for the past nine years. From volunteering at the Circle City Donut Dash to supporting the organization in countless other ways, Katie has continued to show up for Teachers’ Treasures and the educators and students we serve. Learn more about what inspires her commitment to the mission and keeps her coming back year after year.

How long have you been involved with Teachers’ Treasures?

I have been with the organization for nine years.

Why did you want to be a part of the Teachers’ Treasures Board?

I love the mission and vision of Teachers’ Treasures, and I truly believe that every teacher and every child deserves the right resources and tools to make learning possible. I am so thankful to be part of an organization that makes that possible every day!

Why should people support Teachers’ Treasures?

People should support Teachers’ Treasures because it directly supports the teachers and students who need it most in our community. Teachers often spend their own money to provide basic classroom supplies, and Teachers’ Treasures helps remove that burden by providing educators with the resources they need to create engaging, successful learning environments.

Who was your favorite teacher?

My favorite teacher was Mrs. Cooper, she was amazing!

How have you seen Teachers’ Treasures grow?

The growth of Teachers’ Treasures has been incredible, with more teachers and students served, increased volunteer and community engagement, and growing support through our fundraisers and partnerships. When I first became involved, we had one store—and today, we have three, allowing us to reach more educators, provide more resources, and make a greater impact in our community.

What are you looking forward to the most as the new board chair?

We are currently working on our strategic plan, and as we continue to grow, we want to ensure that our mission, vision, and values align with what we are working to accomplish in our community. We have an incredible board, staff, and volunteers who make this possible day in and day out, and it is truly amazing to see what we can accomplish together.

What has been the most meaningful part of your general involvement with TT?

I love what we do and I love seeing the smiles on the tecahers faces and know it directly affects the kids.  Its truly a remarkable place.
