Our volunteers are rock stars who play a huge role in our day-to-day operations. From helping us keep the store stocked to welcoming and checking out shoppers to hosting our volunteer holiday party like this month's volunteers, we couldn't do it without them! We're happy to introduce you to some of our hard-working volunteers on the blog to say thanks. This month, meet Laura and Preston Harris, a couple who has regularly stepped up to the plate to meet some of our volunteer needs.
How long have you volunteered at Teachers' Treasures? As long as David has worked there. We volunteered in his first FOD group and Teachers' Treasures hasn’t been able to shake us since! What do you typically do when you’re here? Typically run tags and check out. Also, we like to volunteer for packet pick up for Donut Dash. What’s your favorite part of volunteering? Minimal commitment and maximum impact. For instance, our last shift over $60,000 in schools supplies went out the door. We also like to volunteer places where we don’t necessarily serve directly the people we are helping (in this case the students); we like to provide background service. What do you do outside of Teachers’ Treasures? Mostly work, but we enjoy vacationing both inside and outside the country. Obviously we’re big fans of teachers! Who is a teacher that made an impact on your life? Laura: Mrs. Scherer from Stokes Elementary in Lebanon. I had some “baby of the family, get away with murder” type behavioral issues in school. She took the time to realize what was causing the behavior problems and figured out a way to motivate me to shape up. She went above and beyond her duties as a teacher to help shape my future and head me toward success instead of juvenile delinquency! Preston: Professer Morrison, a history prof at Purdue. He taught with enthusiasm and passion and held our interest in the subject matter. Thank you for sharing your story and for all of your hard work at Teachers' Treasures, Laura & Preston!
