Our volunteers are a huge part of our day-to-day operations. They keep the store in excellent shape and provide a wonderful experience to our teacher shoppers each week. That's why we're happy to introduce you to some of our hard-working volunteers on the blog to say thanks! This month, meet Cheryl Hamilton.

How long have you volunteered at Teachers’ Treasures, and what do you typically do when you’re here?
I've been at Teachers' Treasures for about two years. I work check-in, so I'm the first face folks see on Tuesday.

What led you to volunteer at Teachers’ Treasures?
I worked for 35 years for IPS and often shopped at Teachers' Treasures when it was at  Washington High School. When I retired, I donated quite a few things to TT. A friend who worked there put out a Facebook notice that they needed help, so I went in one October day and I'm still there.

What’s your favorite part of volunteering here?
My favorite part of volunteering at TT is the people. The staff is great to work with and the volunteers on Tuesday are a fun bunch of folks. I enjoy meeting the teachers who come to shop.

What do you do outside of Teachers’ Treasures?
Away from TT I am active at my church, love to read, and work in my garden when the weather cooperates.

Obviously we’re big fans of teachers! Who is a teacher(s) that made an impact on your life?
One teacher who had an impact on my life was my 7th and 8th grade science teacher. Ms Tileston's classroom was packed with interesting items, and years later, I had the chance to teach elementary science for two years.

Thank you for sharing your story and for all of your hard work at Teachers' Treasures, Cheryl!
